Coke is good for our health or not Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Coke is good for our health or not - Essay Example When I changed clients, the situation was a little different from the new client’s workplace. There was no soda to get hooked to. I resulted to carrying several cans to the workplace and even get into the same queues that I used to pride myself as not participating in. At this point, I was getting a little concerned about my Coke addiction, and I started searching online for the negative effects of not just Coke too much fructose corn syrup. It is while I was reading the effects of excess fructose corn syrup that I discovered that fructose can also serve as an alternative to beer and cane sugar. I later realized that the type of addiction that an individual can experience in terms of Coke drinking can almost match the type of addiction from an alcoholic addiction perspective. In my research, it became evident that Coke is not a good beverage as we are supposed to believe. The highly consumer friendly classifieds are nothing but marketing gimmicks aimed at gaining public support by portraying Coke as a healthy beverage. Of concern to me was that high fructose diet often converts into fat as compared to any other sugar. According to experts and the opinion I read online, this high conversion rate into fats is the major cause of weight gain. Just looking around, I could notice that a lot of people in the streets were overweight. More specific is that most people line in queues at fast-food joints displayed a similar character trait, that of being overweight. Could there be a connection between Coke addiction and weight gain? The answer is yes. One specific example from an online website detailed how the Diabetes Prevention Program at Louisiana State University Medical Center explained to International Congress on excess weight that it was the introduction of excess fructose corn syrup that obesity cases started to increase. Health Gap between Rich and Poor in Briatin Essay

Health Gap between Rich and Poor in Briatin - Essay Example There were a lot of repressed meanings that could possibly be interpreted in these news writings. As a result, this essay would present the point of view on the issue through the evaluation of the three online news sources via using a deconstructive approach. I would first discuss my point of view with regards to the online news article published by BBC Online (1998). Upon reading BBC’s news report, I could say that it was really written in a conservative approach with the aim of not only providing information to the public but largely on persuading the citizens of UK, in particular, the poor sectors of the society, that the government could resolve this widening health gap. This media group’s manner of reporting was done through informing the public on what the government was thinking about the health issue. In fact, as stated by the author of the report who was a government’s former chief medical officer, Sir Donald Acheson, the local authorities had already me chanisms to resolve the challenges encountered by the most economically deprived sector of society. As part of the government, he greatly had voiced how the government were seriously considering the said health issue because of its significant impact on the succeeding generations. In fact, the seventy – five (75) recommendations given in the report was far – reaching as it had included thirty – nine (39) categories which consisted of health all the other areas related it like education, housing and environment. Though, it was only the voice of the government that was clearly expressed. Through taking into consideration the source of the news report, the BBC, a non – commercial, government - owned organization, it could be greatly understood the careful manner of reporting since it was being funded and supported by the government itself. As part of the local authority, this medium was serving a purpose of not only providing the information to the public bu t also, for the large part, it had played to protect the government. It was biased in the sense that the voice of the government was the only voice that was presented. Thus, this article of BBC had suppressed the other possible interpretations of this issue through not presenting the other sides of the problem. Given the serious health concerns encountered by the authorities, BBC had functioned as a mechanism of the government to give assurance to its people that everything was manageable and under control, that the growing health gap between the rich and the poor sectors of society would soon be resolved. In this manner, the public should worry about nothing because the government was doing its role. Indeed, BBC’s manner of providing information to the public was serving the benefit of its sponsor, the government. On the

Insider Trading Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Insider Trading - Essay Example A corporate officer, for instance, who uses information known to him, but not to the public, to purchase or buy securities is generally guilty of insider trading. Exceptions may be allowed for certain transactions which are immaterial or which are reported the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. It must also be noted, however, that the concept of insider trading extends beyond corporate officers and insiders in the technical sense. It also includes people who provide tips to outsiders. This secondary portion of the definition ensures that the primary subjects of the law, corporate officers and fiduciaries, cannot escape punishment by secretly providing information to outsiders and non-fiduciaries (Insider Trading, 2006). The causes of insider trading are quite easy to understand. To illustrate, a corporate officer knows when the value of the corporation is going to increase or decrease. Perhaps there are secret negotiations for a takeover in which share prices are going to increase. He can sell his securities in order to maximize his profits or minimize his losses.

With its eight restaurants within the North California area, managing and overseeing the human resource requirements of Castle’s was creating a toll on Mr. Morgan in terms of increasing transportation costs and the inclusion of payroll under his scope of responsibilities. A close evaluation and review of the current problem of Castle’s Family Restaurant that requires an installation of a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) under the Tactical Information System type. The ADP Workforce Now has been evaluated as the most appropriate HRIS vendor to serve the restaurants’ human resources’ needs. Company Review The Castle’s Family Restaurant (CFR) falls under the micro family enterprise due to the number of employees, ranging from 300 to 400. As research from the Small Business Administration (SBA) reveals, the business size could be determined depending on any one of two factors: the number of employees or the average annual receipts. For an average number of 500 employees, SBA classifies the business as a small business (Small Business Administration, N.D.). Since CFR’s average number of employees is less than 500, it is thereby categorized as a micro enterprise owned by a Castle’s family. Additional research indicated that the restaurant industry is a growing industry with trends indicating increased competition and a demand for rising work force (National Restaurant Association, 2011). One could deduce that to address increasing requirements for human resources, a more professionalized system needs to be set in place. Business Analysis The CFR maintains eight restaurants with complex human resources requirements. Mr. Morgan, the operations manager, is likewise assuming the responsibilities of an HR manager with functions ranging from job description, acquisition, development, and maintenance. By doing so, various problems are eminent: overburdened with responsibilities increasing tendencies to neglect functions; and being more costly in terms of transportation co
